So, after the party and the chatting and the cleaning, there was soccer tonight. We watched the Women's World Cup match. We are in penalty kicks. It is beautiful. The game is almost over.
I love soccer. Japan's keeper is doing an amazing job on the penatly kicks.

Yesterday was a bit of a victory (and a bit of not - the chocolate tour I was going to on Saturday was cancelled due to parade).
Behold a victory cupcake!
These were offered by the cafeteria and were almost 100% awesome. The light chocolatey cake was split in two and filled with cream. The only flaw is that some dude decided to make the rose out of as far as I can tell shortening and blue food coloring. The rose was definitely not buttercream and there is no reason not to make it with buttercream either.

This statue has been all dressed up for at least a week. When I first saw it from behind I thought it was wearing a rain slicker (a worth addition, because it had been pretty rainy), but then I saw it from the front and its full awesomeness was revealed. We tried to get a picture yesterday morning, but the camera was out of battery again. Thankfully my iPod was full of charge and it was still there.
Apparently there is another statue in Quincy sporting a Bruins jersey, but I enjoy seeing our sunny guy as I walk to the bus or train in the morning.
In more knitterly news, I'm trying to knit through four projects at once. Does anyone have a pair of arms they could lend me?

Victor and I are thrilled with the Bruins victory over Vancouver tonight.
It was a great hockey game.
I knit during it, but there were these huge pauses when the hockey was too exciting to knit.
Now it is months before the next hockey game, so far away. I'll have to go back to watching soccer.
And knitting. There is always knitting.
Sports and knitting go together really well.

My fantasy football team decided that it was a bye week and so I've decided not to look at my scores until Tuesday. Of course, that has given me a bit more time to get things done around the house, including making buckeyes.
I was going to make homemade twix bars, but they need about 20 minutes in the oven and 2 hours for the caramel to set. I think I will save that for the party!

Progress!
I am on the last repeat of Henry, though there will be little Henry time this weekend (it's just large and complex enough that I don't want to bring it to the hockey games). Earlier this week, I finished the penultimate repeat and dived right into the next, which I'm rapidly nearing the halfway point. It's a good feeling seeing the end of the project. There will be the three rows of finishing (to make it match the tubular cast on), a wash and block, and then with whatever leftover yarn I have left a fringe. The fringe is necessary, because my initial knitted on icord was incorrect for about 6 rows in the middle of the pattern and for some reason is much looser (and goosier) on one side of the scarf than the other. If it all looked like the left side of the scarf, then a fringe would be completely superfluous.
Last week I ran the Ras na hEireann in under 30 minutes. This has brought this week to a mixed bag running wise. Poor sleeping and other things have me modifying my running around a bit, though I am going to probably run my 3 miles at half marathon pace tomorrow morning (what is my half marathon pace anyway). My long run on Sunday goes up to 8 miles this week, but at least it is supposed to be a gorgeous day for it. Beautiful and 50!
Now I just need to find a purse or purse-like object with which the arena security will let me in to the Women's Frozen Four. I would love to get to knit during all of this hockey (and while watching the zamboni masters at work).

I continued my baking streak this weekend with Banana Cupcakes with a Peanut Butter frosting. These were my quick attempt to use up a couple of ripe bananas that I wasn't going to use for hand fruit anymore, and as such they came out great! A very moist banana cupcake.
My cupcakes were based on these cupcakes from the Cupcake Project. I did quite a bit of modification because I did not have: 2 eggs (just one), sour cream or vanilla. Instead, I used a quarter cup of applesauce in place of the second egg, and added a tablespoon or so of dark rum to the mashed bananas. I also added some cinnamon, because I believe that all baked bananas should have cinnamon. Yesterday, I used the other two ripe bananas for roasted bananas to go over pancakes.
This weekend I took a break from sock knitting to work on the February Lady Sweater. I have just gotten past the divide for the sleeves and am rocking along the gull lace. I am enjoying the completely mindless nature of the lace. It's very easy comparatively! I'm still mostly in no picture mode (it is easier to remember to take pictures of the food), but I am hoping that I will be done the sweater in the next week or so (I have some small amount of downtime this weekend to get some of it done).
In fantasy football fun, I am losing. The only people I'm beating in my league haven't logged in to update their rosters since the draft. Last year I did much better than this, but I have hopes that I will beat my hubby this weekend and slowly work my way into a playoff spot (by hook or by crook). So, at my hubby's suggestion I joined the loser league. This is incredibly low effort for sports-related silliness. In my first week, I was better than about half of the other people (this league is pretty large), which means my team was pretty bad. I'm hoping that some of my players will manage to do even more poorly next week (I'm mostly glaring at my running backs here). If you want to look at this silliness, feel free to look up my team (the team names are the best part). I'm on there as My Fallen Souffle, because that is sad.

It's the second week of fantasy football season, and while I'm not suffering as much as my FIL, who had Brady, I'm running into some of the same problems. No matter, the games are a great time to do my knitting and knitting and knitting (the edging on the Pi Shawl feels like it is taking forever).
Of course, this morning I didn't just knit. I put into plan an idea for cake decorating (or at least frosting) that I've been thinking about for a while. We packed a lot of stuff in prepping our condo for sale, and one of those things was my huge "cake decorator's tackle box." In it were all of my tips and icing colors. This is OK, because I find the standard buttercream frosting a little boring. A lot of the time I cut the sweet down a bit (it just tastes less sweet) by adding a tiny amount of cinnamon oil to the frosting, but without my colors I've been looking at alternative methods of coloring the frosting. And if it adds some flavor... that's OK too.
Blue cake. Not really. Unlike my blue velvet cake, which had an unnaturally strong blue color, this cake has two packets of blue raspberry koolaid. One of them I've obviously used for the frosting. It makes a nice tart frosting. And of course I have frosting leftover.
The other one I sprinkled on top of the batter. I think in the future I will mix half of the batter with the second packet and then swirl the two batters together or possibly make a checkerboard-style cake. Though for this cake the swirling colors were fun it does make for some intensely tart bites of cake.
I didn't just make cake this weekend. Saturday before going to the library I made muffins. It was a throw together batch only loosely based on a recipe, and while they aren't bad they certainly aren't exciting. My husband and I went to see Kooza yesterday (it was completely amazing and while the first act was still my favorite I was captivated from beginning to end) and when we finally got home from the show and Pandemonium, it was to find that the cat wasn't as hungry as we expected her to be. Apparently, she likes muffins too. She ate the tops off of two of them.
I still have plans to make more ice cream this week, but I'm not exactly sure when I'm going to find the time. Monday is the mostly free day. I have a spinning class I want to take after work, but I'll still be home around 8 at the latest. Afterwards though I run the gauntlet. I have rehearsals for Pirates Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and will just get home and fall over dead each night. Maybe I'll set up a batch before work sometime during the week.
Back to the edging... I really want to be able to block this shawl by Tuesday. I just keep counting the stitches I have left... 120 stitches left for the knit edging... 119... 118... now I know what people mean when they say that the edging always takes longer than one expects.

I'm home really late (the kitty was fed before we left and twice more since we've gotten home).
The Red Sox beat the Orioles. Much knitting was had, and I was reminded forcibly by the people sitting in front of us why drinking responsibly doesn't mean buying at least one beer an inning (until inning 7, when you buy 2 because they're going to stop selling). Belligerent drunk people are not my idea of a good time had by all.
I worked on Abotanicity until about the 7 inning stretch. I feel like the yoke increases are taking forever (last I counted I had 67 stitches between the first 2 stitch markers... I need to get to 105... *zzzz*). I know it is going to be great once I get to put the sleeve stitches on the holder and better still when I get to the lace. The getting there, however, is a lot slower than I want it to be.
