Camp Loopy is an awesome boost to my knitterly productivity each summer. It proves that when allowed to pick my own projects (pattern and yarn) I can complete blankets and sweaters in under a month. But I need a deadline. Without a deadline the projects tend to linger.
Well, babies are good at creating deadlines. Two babies that are due early next year means that I am on the hunt for different blanket patterns. Why blankets? Well, the first time I knit for a baby, I made Angle, a fun sweater with an accordion style rib that stretches, along with a pair of booties. The sweater fit for maybe a nanosecond as the baby was a great grower. If I had made a blanket, then it might still be in use today. So, blankets, or decorative items like birth samplers are better choices.
The blankets I've made in the past year are the Pinwheel Blanket for Q, Honeycomb Stroller Blanket for Z, and Op Art for A. I don't know if the other recipients are using their blankets, but Q uses the blanket when we are going out to keep him warm in his car seat. I don't want to make these again, even though I had fun making them. There are just so many good options that I don't see a need to repeat.
So, I'm currently in the search for two different blanket patterns that ideally will use a portion of my enormous sock yarn stash. Any suggestions?
Right now I am leaning towards the Sweet William blanket and POP blanket. Of course, POP uses worsted weight yarn, so that might be a little more of a problem to make straight from stash. Of course what I really want to make is this puzzle blanket, but it would definitely take too long to make given how little time I am carving out to knit right now!
