I am here at Squam. The lake is beautiful and the woods are covered with mist in the distance. I have a fire going (it just flared up bigger than the picture), and have my coffee is prepping.
I don't know if this is a perfect way to start the morning, but it is pretty close. In a few hours I will have breakfast (the real reason I am making coffee) and then go have my first class with Fiona Ellis.
This year Elizabeth did something different for our first night. Because we are bigger than before, and to both give us some comfort while putting us a smidge out of our comfort zones, we sat at assigned tables with our instructors and fellow classmates for today's class. It was great to have a bit of time to really get to know one another outside of the student-teacher dynamic and get over the potential intimidation factor of being with experts and forthcoming legends in their fields.
Today my class is Knitting as Meditation. I am going in with only the expectation that I will learn something, and the hope that my learning will connect my joy in knitting and craft with a centered mindfulness that will make me experience what I do more fully.
Not bad for a Thursday.
