Today's writing prompt:
You are a talent scout for a hot new television show. Where are you trying to find talent? What is the new show about? Do you find someone (or someones) and how do they impress you?
Thursday was the second day I got some writing done, but it was just a little before work. I didn't calculate my word count, but I was probably under 600 words, definitely a non-stunning start for nanowrimo. I went to bed early, because I had a stomachache. Of course, that meant I woke up this morning before 4:00. I used some of that extra found time to continue writing. I'm almost to page 10 (aka, around 1667 words) and I realized that I was writing something funny.
I've made no bones about the fact that I am writing smut. Anyone who has read a romance novel, been in love, had sex or watched a steamy movie has an idea of how to write smut (please note: I say nothing about the quality of my writing or the writing in general of any of this). It falls under the heading of writing what you know about.
When I first got my ereader, I downloaded a large number of free ebooks. One of the first ones I remember finishing was not a winner because of its quality or price. In fact, it was not fine literature and there was always a strange sense of train wreck and embarassment in reading it. It was a short, about 60-75 pages long, and there were more sex scenes than there was plot. I think I counted 9 sex scenes (of course, I might have also stopped counting). If each one was a modest 3 pages then that was more than third of the book. The first sex scene started on page 2. Maybe earlier - you can read the excerpt which is from the beginning of the book at the link above.
Well, I am writing smut. It is paranormal (eventually); it is raunchy (eventually); it involves murder or other crime (eventually). However, right now I'm still setting things up. I'm 10 pages in and there has been no paranormal, no raunchy, no murder or crime. I don't know if that makes it boring, but it is so far entertaining to write and for me that counts for something.
Of course, I have game tonight, so I have no idea how I am going to continue my writing streak. Right now, I'm strongly limited to mornings and weekends.
