It's really not that bad, but when the temperature spikes like it has over the past few days my quality of sleep drops the Q. Uality of sleep is poor.
Usually this involves a change of routine. Stumble downstairs when I cannot stand it anymore (between 4:30 and 5:00), walk Mr. Victor, move some dishes around, pretend to clean, shower, work, come home, and repeat. However, Sweeney has his own plans for me. Last night was rehearsal followed by unnecessary grocery shopping. This morning was highlighted by lemon buttermilk sherbet. Tonight will be punctuated by pumpkin ice cream pie.
Yes, the ice cream season is upon us. I have about 10 days to make 6 additional varieties of ice cream. Unlike the last time I ran this party two or three years ago, I am making most of my ice creams the French style, a custard base, which is rich and creamy and remains scoopable a little longer. Unfortunately, this benefit is balanced by extra time to make a batch. I make the custard and cool it overnight in the fridge before churning. It's so delicious, and being able to lick the dasher before scrubbing everything down for another round is definitely worth it.
After tonight I will have 5 batches and one mega batch of mochi to make. Part of me feels almost overwhelmed, but the rest of me is just excited for ice cream time!
