Poor Victor. His evening walk has been short this week as I rush to get back home to water the lime coated ground before the light of day is gone. After watering the lawns to be, I've gone back to the compost pile (my pile of leaf litter) and turned it over. It has taken me 3 days to move all of the leaves into a smaller pile.
Today after watering, I started to turn the soil over, so I can hopefully plant this weekend. I found rocks and roots and matted grass that was keeping me away from the dirt beneath, but eventually I managed to get deep enough in one or two spots to take a soil sample for my soil test.
My soil didn't exactly pass the test. It's sometimes hard to color match, but it appears that my soil is about pH 6.5, nitrogen A, potassium C and phosphorus D. I think it will take the rest of the week to turn over the soil enough that I can set up the grow beds and add the bagged garden soil and appropriate fertilizer (oh Nitrogen, my Nitrogen) before the long weekend.
Yes, I'm glad that there is a long weekend. It will make it easier to get all of the gardening done!
