My husband gave me a bar of Black Cat Bar a week or so ago. This bar of chocolate is dark chocolate with cacao nibs and ground coffee beans. Makes the eyes perk right up. The back of the box has a recipe for a "Black Cat's Brew," which I have been making in modified form this week.
My coffee of space and time:
Ingredients:
1 square of the über chocolate
1 heaping tablespoon of Ghiradelli cocoa
1 heaping tablespoon of sugar
French press coffee
A bit of heavy cream (less than a quarter cup)
For this recipe, I take a 1/3 cup of espresso ground coffee and about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water in the French press, and then I run it through a filter to get some of the finer particles out of my coffee.
Put the über chocolate, cocoa and sugar in a cup and mix a bit so the cocoa and sugar are blended. Add coffee, stir for a bit, realize that the chocolate isn't fully melting and zap in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir some more. Add a bit of heavy cream and marvel at how amazingly opaque and dark your coffee happens to be. Drink and chew (umm, ground coffee in the chocolate after all) and comment on how fast you feel. Pretend to fly or scare the cat or just run around doing all the chores until the buzz wears off. Repeat if necessary.
No people or cats were actually injured in the consumption of this coffee, but beware! Beware! The coffee sprites might get you and then where will you be!
