Cleaning, packing and crafting are not such mutually exclusive tasks. Yesterday I got a load of boxes (or as I like to call them: boxen - thank you, Kingdom of Loathing) from various locations and started to fill them up with things that I wouldn't need for at least 3 weeks. I'm relocating a lot of craft supplies to my office (I brought two lots of sweater yarn earlier this week), just so I will have something available in the highly unlikely case that I run out of projects.
My craft goals are two fold: pick a pattern and crochet my 5 potholders by May 25 (the day after the half marathon) and to finish all of the detail work (umm, the finishing) on the baby set so I can mail it to my MIL. Both things will take a lot of pieces and remove them from the condo, so they don't have to packed, moved, and then unpacked before the month-end.
Crochet has been a big focus of what I've been doing lately. I borrowed Crochet Me from the library and within a few days had gone over to Windsor Button and picked up some affordable (read: cheap) yarn to make the Icelandic Turtleneck sweater. I'm using Comfort Baby, which is a wee bit splitty with the crochet hook. I'll probably make this again later with a yarn with a bit more pizazz to it, but I wanted an instant gratification project (umm, yeah, a sweater as instant gratification). I started it during our last dress rehearsal (April 30th) and have 6-7 rows left to go. While I have a slight preference for the look and feel of knitting, I really appreciate how easy it is to pull a wad of extra yarn out of a loop in crochet and just try the garment on. I know this top will fit, because I've already tried it on at 2 or 3 stages (yoke and waist shaping), and I will try it on before deciding it is long enough. Two weeks to finish a sweater. Maybe that is instant gratification!
