I was all over the Boston area today before my fit testing at 3 (more on that later).
I left at my normal time of the morning to spend some time at the gym - extra time really. I didn't leave the gym until 11. I did some of my normal things and then I did rowing. I haven't used a rowing machine since college, and my hands are covered with little blisters.
After the gym, I went to find a gift for an "unbirthday" today. I know the person in question knits (at least on occasion), so I got a skein of the Cherry Tree Hill Supersock DK in Java with a pattern and some knitting needles. I don't think she's knit socks yet, so hopefully she will feel up for the challenge. I was actually really good and didn't get anything for myself (umm, my birthday is in about a week, so I shouldn't do any shopping for myself).
I wondered around Boston and knit at various bus stops and on the bus to True Jeans. I went in for a fit testing. I didn't have the foggiest idea what my size was going in, and while I am still a little confused (women's sizing is such a hodgepodge that they can't give complete clarity), I tried on a ton of great jeans. I'm not a designer clothing kind of person, so I didn't have the foggiest idea what the differences were between the Levis from Kmart and designer jeans.
The difference is a lot more than I ever expected. The best jeans didn't have any strange gapping, were interesting in color (the variations in color in the same pair of pants can be really cool), had interesting details like piping or contrasting top stitching, and were really soft. The jeans I got last year (the quintessential Levis from Kmart) don't fit very well. They're so much rougher even after being worn and washed for a year than most of the jeans I tried on.
I found out that I'm pretty much an up and down figure (not that I'm flat, but I am not curvaceous enough for the Little in the Middle jeans). I got a pair of pair of Worn Jeans, but want to save up my pennies for a pair of the Odyn. Yum! This is definitely a once a year birthday type of treat (I certainly can't afford these jeans as an everyday thing no matter how long my jeans last). This was a great experience though and I would certainly recommend True Jeans to pretty much anyone. Everyone I met there was terrific! They are looking for plus size fit testers, because they are adding three plus size jeans lines next month.
Now back to my Sockatta socks (yeah, I'm still putting off the kitchenering - it feels like a weekend project), making ice cream, and cupcakes!
