Stashing along is a wonderful creative exercise. Finding the old yarn and projects that you thought you would have (could have, should have) done last year or... more and bringing to them new focus and energy is uplifting and exciting. The desire for more yarn, because more yarn is the easiest answer to any project is always sort of there. I could make this sweater out of this yarn, but it isn't quite perfect for it. I should buy this yarn instead...
Of course, doing the 2007 Stashalong gives you these free days to funnel all of your creative and shopping impulses into, and while I feel I've done well I still don't have that many more finished projects to show for it all.
May is gone, and I did a good job. I knit a thong (which is the silliest thing I've knit yet), some socks, and a bag. Three finished items is a lot for me, and hopefully June will follow in its path. I have Sockapalooza test socks on the needles as well as a pair of old socks (started in 2006). I have a sweater I should finish and enough yarn for two or three other sweaters or cropped cardigans. Yet I want to buy yarn. What's a gal to do?
Gifts. I have a couple of friends who knit or people who might want a skein or two of something they haven't tried (you know who you are!). Next payday I will go and buy something pretty, something colorful and something soft. It won't be for me, so it won't linger in my condo, but it will satisfy my yarn shopping urges for a month or so. And in the meantime, I will work on my test socks, or pull out the EBTKS and weave in a few more ends (I love the project, but the ends!). Maybe by the end of June I will have something done, something beautiful, and I will be able to buy some yarn for me.
But I'm not counting on it.
