One of my friends is getting married in under two weeks. I wanted to make the I Do shrug to wear to the wedding. In my mind's eye, I was picturing wearing a sleeveless or spaghetti-strapped grey dress with a nice deep teal version of the shrug over it. Of course, my mind's eye was only a little worried because it hadn't found a dress and the shrug was started and stalled. These things don't worry the mind's eye, because the mind's eye is an object of fantasy.
FANTASY.
Last weekend, I found something at Banana Republic to wear. A very short sleeved top with a pleated skirt that has a thread in all the grey that matches the yarn I am using for the shrug (I know, because I brought all potential shrug yarns with me to the store). I started the shrug again at the beginning of this week. I toiled and toiled and ripped and ripped, and now I am at exactly the same place I was Monday evening. I am no longer doing the decreasing (or the increasing for that matter), so the sleeves will not form little lacy bells. I have cast on the number of stitches needed for my size at the shoulder (72), and am knitting the entire thing in that width. My sleeves will be a little wider than necessary, but on the whole it should work pretty well.
Now to see if I can finish an entire sleeve to back by Friday night, so I can finish the left sleeve early next week and block to wear for a weekend wedding. Gosh, I am so hosed.
