It is still all nanowrimo all the time here, so today's writing prompt is in keeping with the 10 dream vacations theme.
You are a worker at the Vacation Planet. Is your planet owned by a corporation or individual interests? What makes your planet so popular for vacations? What is your job? Do you like it?
New England is being hit with a drizzly yucky storm. Cold wet rain, scarves, hats and long johns. It is far too early to be walking around with wet cold feet, which just increases my surliness factor. So, instead, my top 10 dream vacations.
1. A vacation where I do nothing at all. The cruise was close, but it was a strange combination of more social than I am normally and conspicuous consumption that made my head hurt. I'm more thinking a cabin in the woods during the early fall or summer. Nothing to do but hang around, walk on some trails and eat pre-made home cooked meals. A staycation effectively without needing to think about immediately cleaning.
2. The ocean. I really do love water locales more than any other place I've been to. I don't want to become one of the people from Massachusetts who goes to Old Orchard Beach each summer, because I unfortunately have vivid memories of milking tourists each summer. Maybe a warmer place, maybe Hawaii. I'm tired enough right now that a quiet beach spot sounds perfect.
3. Volunteer vacations. I have been intrigued by these for a while. Locally I know there are vacations where you build housing or similar things, but the local aquarium also has vacations where you collect samples for the aquarium (let's ignore for the moment that I don't have my diving certification).
4. Biking or hiking tours. I haven't been to Japan yet (yes, still hoping for that), and I remember loving the look of the biking tour. Of course, I'm not a great cyclist and not in terribly great shape, so I will probably have to settle for hiking. My legs work even if my balance is shitty.
5. Visiting friends. I have friends I haven't seen in at least four or five years. It isn't fair to expect them to come out here all of the time, so it would be great to see some of them.
6. A class based vacation. Something like Squam or maybe even going to Rhinebeck for more than a single day. I have a lot of interests and quite a few things that I haven't tried yet, but I am interested in giving a shot.
7. Japan. I've been studying Japanese off and on (currently on again) since 1992, and it would be great to have a chance to put my broken language skills to use. I would probably want to visit Shibuya, though I undoubtedly wouldn't fit in. Well, and temples and for snarkiness sake Tokyo Tower.
8. France or Italy. Food. Really good food. I read a lot of food bloggers and when they go places they find the best things to eat, but for one of these locations it is almost impossible to find a horrible spot especially if you keep your eyes open to where the locals are eating.
9. Home. It would be great to spend a week with the normal work schedule, and enough cooking and cleaning that when I took a week off it would actually be off. Most of the time when I vacation it is more like I errand-cation. It's not exactly the thrill I signed up for. I'm pretty sure the next time I have off will be either a recovery day for a convention or a few days working at the chocolate shop. I don't begrudge using my vacation time that way, but it doesn't actually make me a more rested person.
10. Naptown. What? You mean that place doesn't exist! Blasphemy!
