This morning was a bit of a comedy of errors, especially after last night's fire alarm fiasco. There was no burning. Heck, there was no fire. Just a low battery fire alarm that took a ridiculous amount of time to locate. It is quite a difference going from one or two fire alarms to 15 (I kid, but it is a lot more than we had before).
Last night I made an attempt to make the Best Birthday Cake from smitten kitchen (can you tell it is my go to place for tasty recipes). I say attempt, because the cake was a very golden brown on the surface (on the wrong rack), and it split in two when I tried to rap it up for decorating at a later date. Well, now I have a copious amount of cake for trifle, and have to go back to the drawing board for a tasty dessert that is, well, actual cake.
This morning I went to the grocery store with my list, and proceded to forget things. My normal reason for forgetting them - I didn't put them on the list. Thank goodness my husband can get things on his way home or I would have to go out again (and again, and again). Once I was back and the rest of the ice cream maker pieces were out of the dishwasher (the dasher... why did I even bother putting it in there. I could have made so much more progress if I had just washed it by hand), I finished making ice cream #2: Lemon Buttermilk Sherbet. So wonderfully tasty. Yum!
Now I just have one batch of ice cream left to make, a ton of dishes to wash, hamburger meat to defrost, and a few dozen other things I want to do. It's my lunch break, but I will be back in the kitchen momentarily to add another batch of baked goodies to the oven.
I'm taking pictures of the process in the kitchen. I'm not sure how the food bloggers I read do it, because I feel like it is slowing me down a lot to take pictures when I am done stirring this or mixing that or taking this other thing out of the oven. But this does mean that there will be pictures most of next week, though they probably won't include any knitting.
(I cannot begin to say how grateful I am to have today off rather than trying to get this all done after work. When I decide to bake it is often a full day affair.)
