It's almost the start of a new work week. About 15-20 minutes away from my first run of the week (and running in the cold rain yesterday was a lot of fun, until I couldn't feel my fingers anymore), and hopefully only a few hours from finishing Henry.
Yup, that scarf. Still.
I could have finished it on either Saturday or Sunday, but I got distracted. First, on Saturday I went to Craft Boston. The entry fee seems a little steep, but you can go back each day of the show. The pieces were gorgeous, and there was a lot that I would have happily come home with. But payday is just a few days away and I hadn't saved my pennies for the event, so I don't have anything to show for it except a few business cards, the program, and my memories. What I remember most (off the top of my head, as there will be more later) was the shibori scarves with their lush felted wool background and delicate silk bobbles or shells. They were stunning, but mostly served to remind me that I wanted to try my hand at shibori and I might have the appropriate materials in my stash. There was also someone who did shibori dying that had the most amazing artsy tote style bags. I loved the fabrics and the richness of the color, and maybe if I am smart I will manage to save my pennies for one of the bags next year.
Sunday was running in the rain, and trying to go out for the second half of my run when I warmed up only to have it go from a deceptive mist to the skies opening up. Instead, the huge umbrella was my companion on the way to the grocery store. I cooked a ton of stuff. Mostly, I made the all natural thin mints from 101 cookbooks. I only used about half of my dough and rolled them as thin as I could get them. I also used these tiny cookie cutters (I think they are really meant for cutting fondant shapes), and so my half recipe produced about 90 really tiny cookies. My hubby pronounced them not quite as good as girl scout thin mints, and I think it was the flour I used. If I make them again, I will try cake flour for a bit less grit. I also made mini sweet potato samosas, baked tofu and, well, rice.
Of course, the cooking didn't actually take all day and neither did the running. So, Henry didn't get finished because I was playing too much Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. A truly sad reason for not finishing the scarf of doom!
